American Redware Pitcher in Green Glaze

Rare green exterior glaze with date in white slip. Interior manganese glaze

Primitive Pitcher no interior glaze

One of a pair of jugs probably made by the same potter (see next) neither are glazed on the interior, but they have a mottled glaze on the outside. The character of the glaze suggests a primitive kiln with great variation in the temperature. both mugs are thrown and rough displaying the marks of the makers fingers inside and out. Fascinating piece.

Primitive Redware Mug

2nd Redware mug or bowl both, I think by the same maker judging by the handle attachment. Despite the rough potting, the items have slip decoration. the bump at the bottom suggests the clay was laid out over a form and then the foot applied rather than thrown on a wheel. SOLD

Primitive Redware Mug

Redware bowl or mug One of two that are made to stack within each other. Despite the primitive nature of the piece, the maker took the time to add decorative glaze in white slip. The two mugs were must likely made by a village potter who made the most basic items. they have a charm of their own. SOLD
