Girl in a Blue Striped Dress
Child with doll and Cat
The perspective in this piece is delightful. The chair and the girl are in the foreground resting on a green and flowered carpet. The red curtain defines a window with an outdoor scene of a river, ducks and weeping willow which are set on the same picture plane as the child and yet despite the simplicity of the perspective the placement of the girl on a diagonal plane with her head centered in the upper third framed by the curtain and the willow describe a keen eye for the compositional elements. This is a wonderfully rare example of a painting on velvet featuring a domestic scene.
